Impact Report

November 2021 – June 2023

Coming up on our 2-year anniversary, we have put together our first Impact Report. We are so proud of what we have achieved at Community Toolbox Canberra since opening in November 2021. We have served over 400 members who have done amazing things with the over 800 pieces of equipment in the library, making things from decks to dough, and ponds to pasta. One member has borrowed 160 items!

We are grateful for the wonderful feedback, support and encouragement we get from our members.

I’ve gotten a lot out of my toolbox membership as a first homeowner, who moved into a place that needed a bit of work. I’ve so far installed a dog door (reciprocating jigsaw), removed some old metal fencing poles (angle grinder), repaired some rotted fascia boards before repainting (orbital sander, drop sheet) and used a variety of tools to do more simple things where a socket wrench set or drill have been required. It’s saved me a lot of cash, but I’m actually more motivated to spruik the Community Toolbox due to the efficient use of resources it enables (yes, I am an economist professionally).
— Dan C., Community Toolbox Canberra Member

We have a happy team of 41 volunteers behind the desk and behind the scenes, for the tool library and our Repair Café, who have contributed more than 1,200 hours and many, many more in the background. Together, with the support of SEE Change, we have saved items from going to landfill, helped people reduce consumption of new goods and built an amazing community around our mission to “make it possible for everyone to have the means to create, have fun, try a new hobby and make their home more liveable and, in doing so, reduce waste and pressure on the Earth’s resources.”
