Volunteer with us
Whether you’re a skilled handyperson, occasional tinkerer or someone who just wants to help out, there’s a place for you on the Toolbox team
The Toolbox is volunteer-run, and we are enormously grateful for the people who give their time and talent to make it happen.
Keeping it all ticking along requires:
Toolbox assistants: to operate the library. There is always an experienced volunteer on hand and detailed equipment knowledge is optional
DIY experts: to give advice to members
Handypeople: to check and repair non-electrical items
Repairers of all kinds: to fix items at our monthly repair cafe
Behind the scenes helpers: to cover volunteer management, member liaison etc
All volunteers on site will need a Working With Vulnerable People Card - this is free and available through Access Canberra.
Earn Free Membership
Volunteers can earn free extensions on their tool library membership. Here’s how it works:
When a volunteering member has logged 30 or more hours in the 12 months (about one shift a month) before their membership renewal date, their membership will be extended for 6 months.
If you’re a non-member volunteer, you can earn 6 months’ membership as soon as you have volunteered 30 hours in a 12-month period.
